Based on utilization patterns and customer feedback, SmartNet North America has made the decision to change it RINEX Data Retention Policy.

As of August 21, 2017, SmartNet North America will move away from retaining RINEX data for 45 days, to retaining RINEX data for 30 days.  We will however continue to retain 30 second RINEX data for 5+ years to allow for long term monitoring, velocity modelling, and integrity processes on all stations.  Additionally, we will also standardize the epoch rate of all data files to 1 second, this change will be rolled out during the coming weeks with all stations having a 1 second epoch rate by September 1, 2017.

This decision was not made in a vacuum.  Based on our previous changes, we looked at the usage and download history of the RINEX data and verified that over 95% of all downloads occur in the first 30 days of it being available.  We have also seen a large uptick in requests for a consistent 1 second epoch across the primary files that we provide to the public and have decided the best course of action to take achieve these requests is to opitmize storage parameters to let us address these market needs.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause some of our users, but feel like this schema provides the best balance for an consistent epoch rate and data retention.

Thank you,

SmartNet North America
